The presentation will address targeted violence in our society (primarily in schools and organizations), and how we address and mitigate these matters. Traditionally, most efforts have focused on preparing for and responding to these incidents, however, decades of study demonstrate that much can be done to prevent this type of violence in our society by identifying and recognizing pre-attack behaviors, ensuring that the observation of these behaviors is reported to the appropriate authorities, and that the subject of such reporting is properly assessed for the risk of violence he/she poses. This presentation will show the evidence associated with Behavioral Threat Assessment, and how that process can effectively mitigate violence.
