May 13 @ 2pm - 3pm, CT ~ Getting Started: Building Your Digital Accessibilty Plan
The goal for this training is to help local government staff start to build confidence and momentum by planning and starting to take steps toward compliance. Participants will learn how to add an accessibility statement to your website. You will also learn how to complete a content audit of your website to understand what you have on your website, if content provides value, and determine how much effort it will take to make it accessible. Finally, this session will also cover how accessibility can be incorporated into communications processes and routines.
June 24 @ 2pm - 3pm, CT ~ Accessibility Basics: Simple Ways to Make a Big Difference
Learning how to make content accessible can feel technical and overwhelming if too much information is presented too quickly. Instead of taking a “here’s everything you need to know” approach, it can be better to have people learn concepts a little at a time. This webinar will focus on a handful of basic core accessibility principles that local government staff can easily apply when working on their websites and documents. These include: headings, links, images, color, and writing web content. It will also cover how to use free tools to check website accessibility.
August 19 @ 2pm - 3pm, CT ~ Creating Accessible Documents Starting with Microsoft Word
Many local government entities create simple Microsoft Word documents for letters, meeting agendas/minutes, etc and then save them as PDFs. Before these are converted to PDFs and added to websites, they must be made accessible. The simplest way to do this is by starting from an accessible Word template. This webinar will walk participants through the basics of how to make Word documents accessible and how to create a Word template that they can use as a starting point for creating accessible documents.
October 7 @ 2pm - 3pm, CT ~ Creating Accessible Forms: Connecting People to Services
Forms are one of the most important ways people interact with local government services—from applications and permits to registrations and requests. Making sure these forms are accessible helps ensure everyone can complete them independently and successfully. Building on what was learned about accessibility basics and accessible Word documents in webinars 2 and 3, participants will learn how to structure forms clearly, label fields appropriately, and provide helpful instructions so users know exactly what information is needed.
Important Notes:
**This is a Zoom webinarhosted by NDIRF (ND Insurance Reserve Fund). NDIRF will share the attendee list with NDACo/ILG to apply ILG training hours to your transcript.
