What is a Youth Commission?

NDACo and the counties we serve show our commitment to young people in many ways, including scholarships and by hiring seasonal help and encouraging youth to get involved as election workers.

We also want to encourage the formation of Youth Commissions. Youth Commissions can take many forms. The Cass County Youth Commission (CCYC) is comprised of representatives from each school district in the county. The students take tours and meet with county government representatives to learn more about their government, and they engage in an activity of their choosing that raises money to support other youth or organizations in the county. Several alumni of the CCYC have been recognized as national scholars and have gone on to careers in local government.

Information on the Cass County Youth Commission can be found here: www.casscountynd.gov/county/Boards/ccyc/Pages/default.aspx.

Please use the forum below to ask questions and offer suggestions about what a Youth Commission might look like in your county. Chances are, what works in one county may not work in another, but engaging young people in county government is important. If you see a question or comment that interests you, click "REPLY."
